Mimsical Soaps FAQ
There are several reason why Homemade soap is a great alternative for your personal washing needs, and several reason why Mimsical Soaps began
It started out with my own growing awareness of the increase in skin issues, and the ingredients in synthetic washing products, allergies and so forth, my family has a god wholesone food intake, ensuring they are in peak condition on the inside, but what about the outside, and what does our skin absorb, and liver process? The more research I did to maintain healthy living, the more astounded I was with how awful the ingredients are. I received a gift of reasonably cheap and nasty shower wash, with an equally nasty fragrance, and that was the straw that broke the camels back. I was washing with a chemical cocktail that was so unnecessary.
There is a trend to move away from harsh and drying commercial soaps that use acid dipped processing, and using Body washes instead. However these are a chemical cocktail which may ‘feel’ nicer than cheap mass produced soap but harsh on our environment with so much processing and plastic bottle packaging not to mention added nasties (like parabens and SLES) your skin will absorb, and your liver WON”T process. So it is not all that good really….
It is little wonder more and more people suffer from sensitive skin and constantly lamenting about reactions of beauty products on their skin.
My baby soap developed for a real need, my baby neice has peanut and food allergies, her skin is a mess and she needs nasty steroid creams to stop her skin from bleeding. For those families who understand, you must take a break from steroids to save the skin for a week every two weeks. I developed calendula soap with simple ingredients made mild as possible so she can be washed at all times, without reaction especially the week she is off the steroid cream My sister was thrilled, I was thrilled, this product will help and hence my desire to spread the opportunity to use something safe.
When my own baby was born, again I wanted to make all my baby things so I knew and controlled what went into it. Hence Mimsical Baby began!
Most people identify regular soap as a product with harsh drying properties and no good for washing with, as an irritant to eczema ravaged skin, face (yes FACE), and genitals. So they use shower gels, and the amount of packaging, compared to a bar of soap from Mimsical is worth noting~!
Mimsical soaps can be used all over your body, with no itchiness and no drying of your most delicate areas!
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT.
The massive amount of plastics and synthesisation of soap and shower gel ingredients is HUGE. The factories spill out so many greenhouse gases for all parts including the containers is comes in. Cheap cosmetics made on a mass produced scale is on the rise. People do not like soap as much due to the harshness and irritant factor, so they go shower gel, all processed, all using machinery fuel and who knows what else!
HOW IS SOAP MADE ~ WHAT IS LYE?
I can't tell you here how synthetic store brought soap is made here, please email me for a fact sheet (be warned it is frightening the information inside!), but I can explain home made.
It is a blend of rich moisturising plant oils (olive macadamia, coconut etc) and liquid either water, milks or herbal tea, and any other nice ingredients I can think of and set with a heat process using lye as a catalyst. It sounds a bit complex, but if done correctly makes the oils turn to lovely creamy soap. Lye is a powerful cleaning agent,. However the tiny amounts used are carefully measured to saponify the oils with at LEAST 5% DISCOUNT (IE MINIMUM 5% OILS ARE FREE AND NOT SAPONIFIED BUT FREE FLOWING FOR EMOLLIANT PURPOSES) and by the time the soap has cured.. the lye is COMPLETELY NEUTRAL and no longer exists so to say. That’s the only thing in the soap. My soap has NO chemical Hardeners, No preservatives, NOT soaked in acid after NO SLES’s, No parabens which exist in All store brought creams lotions and gels and CLOG your liver, never to be excreted and remains in your body, forever.
Each soap comes with a full list of ingredients to comply with Australian legislation and so you can check for personal requirements.Mimsical Soap is also registered with NICNAS the current government regulatory body for the use of LYE in my soaps.
WHERE DO YOU GET THE INGREDIENTS FROM?
Every effort is made to use local Australian ingredients especially the additions like honey and herbs and milks. The oils used are good quality and again all effort is used to ensure Australian companies are sourced. Far North Tropical Queensland is a rich source of exciting produce, My favourite pastime is sourcing the local markets for exciting fresh and innovative ingredients, and of course growing my own herbs is an exciting part of the truly home made experience. Picking and brewing herbs from my garden for the liquid content is an aromatic part of the process, and now I collect freshly milked right before my eyes goatmilk from the local dairy, and use Virgin Cold Pressed Olive oil grown and pressed less than an hour away in a Australian Olive grove Pukara Estate.
Mimsical is all bout also supporting our Aussie farmers and businesses.
Mimsical Proudly uses the best quality ingredients and Never Uses cheap petroleum based fillers.
WHY IS MY SOAP GETTING SOFTER AND DARKER?
One of the things about homemade anything is that it is entirely different to store brought, The texture and feels will be more obvious from cooking to needlework. There is a quality and for those accustomed to store brought everything, home made can be a little unusual. Because there is No Nasties the soap will be softer, particularly if it is a soap high in olive oil or 100% veggie.
It is extremely important to ensure your soap dries out completely between uses, not to be left under a dripping shower head or in a pile of water. I use scotch brite (the green pads) to sit my soaps on. You can hunt your local markets and might find a nice little raised dish with good drainage to use.
However your essential oils and honeys and wonderful ingredients will remain and be renewed at every wash you will enjoy the fragrance and qualities to the very end. If you do drown your soaps there may be a slightly gooey effect which will dry out and still does it’s job.. to clean your skin beautifully

I SEE NATURAL SOAP SOLD EVERYWHERE. WHAT MAKES 'MIMSCAL' SOAP DIFFERENT ?
In Australia the word natural is loosely thrown around and a product with only a small portion of natural ingredient can be claimed as natural. Read the ingredients, smell and look at the soap. Is it brightly coloured, smells amazingly like a strawberry or vanilla? Then it has artificial colour and scents. If it is from the supermarket and says natural it is very well a synthetic product with a minimum of 5% of a natural ingredient totally lost in their machinery processed product. My colours remain as natural clays, spices plants and minerals, with the exception of our Scented Range.. a select group of scented soaps, these are available after increased requests, so we have the Vanilla, Berry Blush, Rose and occasional floral. Clearly labelled as scented.
Then the Aromas range.. delicatly laced with Pure essential oils.
‘You might notice the aroma not that strong. Well essential oils are powerful, it is more about the quantity to be safe and effective rather than overpowering and not so good on delicate skin. Sandalwood for example, dwindling tree supplies are a concern.. I prefer to use Australian cedar wood which has renewable forests. See the difference?
Also many citrus does appear to fade, but you will notice the smell is back as you lather it up!
Then there is your base for soap.. usually palm oil or tallow and coconut oil. Unless you have a year long aged castille soap (pure olive oil) nearly all soap use those base oils. In fact when you buy a lot of so called natural or 100% pure veggie oil soaps thats all they have is Base oils of Palm and palm kernal. A sligtly harsher oil that is fast becoming unpopular due to excessive deforestation, and community damage in poorer countries like Maylasia. Shop brought "natural soaps" are missing what Mimsical has,Shea Butter, Coco butter, Sweet alomnd, or Hemp, or Macadamia nut oil and certainly no Olive oil or fresh garden ingredients! This is what makes Mimsical Soaps a better quality choice!
Unlike many other soap makers, Mimsical has Complete ACCOUNTABILITY with NICNAS and your gaurantee of safe legal soap.
